Recruitment

TurnAround Couriers is a growing company. We hire and train enthusiastic, punctual and conscientious youth who are using the services of downtown shelters or youth agencies.

All applicants should note that we only accept applications that we receive from downtown shelters or youth agencies.

This is because these shelters and agencies help us with the initial stages of the interview process, helping us to screen all applicants more fairly and effectively.

To date, TurnAround Couriers has employed or hired youth from Covenant House, Evergreen, Youth Link, WoodGreen Community Centre, Turning Point, St. Stephen's Employment and Training Centre, YES, St Christopher's House, Gateway Cafe and Oasis. We are always keen to meet and receive applications from new agencies and shelters!

Interested applicants should note that TurnAround Couriers does not currently have any receptionist positions available.

For future reference, however, the positions that we do interview for can best be summarised as follows:

1. Receptionist

2. Bike Couriers

Receptionist

This position is open to both men and women.

(a) Job Details

The receptionist answers the telephone at TurnAround Couriers between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday. He or she takes orders from clients over the telephone and inputs them into a computer system, to be relayed to the courier dispatcher.

(b) Job Qualifications

The receptionist is punctual, energetic and conscientious. Because this person is the public voice of the business, it is imperative that this person has a pleasant telephone manner and is able to politely deal with calls waiting. As it is hoped that this person will help to grow the business, we look for ambitious people with drive and enthusiasm.

Familiarity with basic computer skills, typing and literacy are pre-requisites.

2. Bike Couriers

These positions are open to both men and women.

(a) Job Details

All couriers are responsible for picking-up and delivering packages from and to offices in downtown Toronto between 8am and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.

(b) Job Qualifications

Successful couriers are enthusiastic, punctual and conscientious. Because couriers are the public face of the business, it is imperative that they have a pleasant manner and are able to politely deal with client receptionists and staff.

(c) Salary and Benefits

Couriers are paid 60% of the sum invoiced to the client for the services provided for which that courier is solely responsible.

Couriers are engaged as independent contractors with TurnAround Couriers, but are covered by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board Compensation Scheme.

Couriers are provided (if required) with a bicycle, bicycle lock, helmet, pump, repair kit and city map when they start work on a "rent to own" basis. They are charged $10 per week to rent this equipment until such time as their rental payments equal the purchase price of the equipment, at which point they own the equipment and no longer have to rent it. Couriers are responsible for maintaining their own bikes at their own expense.

Couriers are also responsible for renting a 2-way radio / text messaging / cellphone from TurnAround Couriers in order to maintain contact with the dispatcher during their working day. This is charged to the couriers at cost, which is approximately $25 per week.

Couriers are paid for every week worked on the following Monday.
